Why the “Thigh Gap” Makes Me Sad

thigh gap push pushIt’s not the newest news, but the whole “thigh gap” thing, especially among young women, has been a simmering pot that came into media focus a couple of weeks ago when I was off the grid on a sailboat vacation.  It was on the news and in the paper and on the web. It’s a popular hashtag on Twitter.

Sam alluded to it in her post about bathing suit anxiety.  The “thigh gap” aspiration is the newest thing driving young women to obsessive dieting and disordered eating.

I am a woman in her late forties with no teenagers, so I’m a bit out of the loop sometimes. When I discovered the world of tumblrs (such as “fuckyeahthighgap” and “thigh gap” ) devoted to the thigh gap, I confess to being not just shocked, but profoundly saddened.

hi, I’m really not that good at this as its my first time but I want my blog to be about me, so people from the world who speak English can get a inside into my life. I life with my mum, and younger brother who’s 9. we have different dads and we never spoke to them before. my mum is single and we live in our grandparents old house they now life next door, our house has six bedrooms over two floors but is falling apart. we own a small farm, I wouldn’t consider us poor as I have all the best brand name close but there is a few weeks when we have cornflakes three times a day. I get on pretty well with both my mum and granny and tell them a lot of things, the things I don’t I’m going to write about here. I attend the local secondary school and I’m going into transition year Im not sure what else to write to do with myself so I’ll leave it at that for now!
